An Intimate Mt. Madonna County Park Wedding in the Redwoods | Peter & Jason
There was something so easy and genuine about Peter and Jason’s wedding in the Redwoods from the very beginning. They chose Mt. Madonna County Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains, surrounded themselves with the people who clearly know and love them deeply. And let the day unfold without trying to make it anything other than theirs. Peter and Jason were laid-back, ready for anything, and so naturally connected that even when they were across the lawn talking to different guests, they always seemed to find their way back to each other. It was intimate, personal, and such a sweet celebration of queer love.
A Wedding in the Redwoods That Felt Completely Like Them
Mt. Madonna County Park was such a fitting setting for this day. The towering redwoods created this tucked-away feeling for the ceremony, while the warm sunlight coming through the trees made everything feel cozy without needing a ton of extras. Peter and Jason brought in their own personality through the details too, deep greens, reds and oranges in the florals, vintage-inspired touches, colorful candles, and little details that felt collected rather than overly styled.
But what really stood out was the ceremony itself. There was so much tenderness in the way Peter and Jason looked at each other and held hands, but it never felt overly serious or formal. You could see them smiling, laughing, and just being themselves throughout it. And having their families and friends there so openly celebrating them made the whole thing feel even more special. Their love wasn't simply accepted in this space, it was recognized, supported, and celebrated loudly by the people who matter most to them.
An Intimate Mt. Madonna Wedding Centered Around Connection
After the ceremony, the day stayed just as relaxed. Guests mingled outside beneath the trees, family photos happened among the redwoods, and Peter and Jason actually had time to be present with everyone instead of immediately rushing into the next thing. Even while they were making their rounds, I kept noticing those little moments between them, the way they'd lean toward each other, check in, laugh together, or naturally reach for one another. Those are always some of my favorite things to photograph because they're not moments you have to manufacture. They're already happening.
We eventually wandered farther into the park for portraits, and honestly, Peter and Jason made my job very easy. They were completely comfortable together, which meant we could walk around, play with the pockets of light coming through the trees, and let the photos feel like them. Some are quiet and close, some are full-on laughing, and some simply show the two of them walking through the redwoods together. It was the perfect ending to a day that never felt like it was trying too hard, and that's exactly what made it so good!
