A Romantic Sunriver Proposal Along the Deschutes River | Conner & Ella
If you're thinking about planning a romantic Sunriver proposal, let Conner and Ella's story be your sign to do it. Between the pine trees, river views, and quiet pockets of nature, Sunriver is one of those places that feels beautiful without trying too hard. This New Year's Eve proposal was simple, thoughtful, and completely centered around creating a moment that felt personal. Conner reached out just a few days before the proposal. Both he and Ella are in the military and had a trip planned during the break between Christmas and New Year's. While they were visiting Central Oregon, he decided it was the perfect time to propose, and somehow managed to keep the entire thing a secret!
Why Sunriver Is Perfect for a Romantic Sunriver Proposal
Sunriver is one of those locations that seems made for moments like this. Between the towering pine trees, winding pathways, and views of the Deschutes River, there's no shortage of beautiful spots that feel tucked away from the rest of the world. It's scenic without feeling crowded and adventurous without requiring a long hike, which makes it a great option for couples looking for something relaxed and meaningful. The area we chose ended up being a little busier than expected, but that's one of the things I love about Sunriver. There are so many little pockets of privacy throughout the area that it's easy to pivot when needed. What could have been a stressful situation turned into the perfect opportunity to find an even more secluded spot among the trees.
How Conner Pulled Off the Surprise
My role for the day was to blend in and pretend I was photographing the scenery while waiting for them to arrive. Once Conner realized our original location wasn't quite as private as he'd hoped, he took Ella for a short walk and secretly texted me directions so I could follow behind them. After a quick thumbs up from across the trees, he got down on one knee and completely surprised her.
What makes this proposal even better is that I later found out Ella's biggest request was for the moment to feel private. She didn't want a crowd or a big production, just something that felt genuine and personal. After she said yes, we spent the rest of the evening exploring the area, taking photos, and soaking in the excitement of being newly engaged. We ended the session on a bridge overlooking the river with the sun setting behind them, and it ended up creating some of my favorite images from the entire day.
